About 30 years ago, my grandparents sheltered a woman who had been severely beaten by her husband. Grandpa's best friend was police officer, and he was worried that the wifebeater may show up at grandpa's house, so he gave grandpa a handgun for protection.
The officer told grandpa, "I took this gun from a criminal." Grandpa put it in a drawer and never used it, and I inherited it when grandpa died, and I'm not sure what to do with it. I'm sure it's unregistered. But since the officer said he took it from a criminal, perhaps a computer check would reveal it was used in crimes many years ago. What should I do?
