So, title says it all. I grabbed a Mossberg tactical 22, which is basically a dressed up 702 plinkster. I wanted something I could shoot inexpensively right now while everyone is driving the prices northwards of insane on everything else.
I picked up the T15 at wally world for $220. Not a bad price, about $50 cheaper than anywhere else I could find that actually had them in stock. Comes with one magazine, adjustable stock, and a carry handle built in and full picatinny handguard.
The first thing I noticed out of the box was the magazine release doesnt drop the magazine. You have to pull on the mag to release it... Im not a big fan of two handed release as it really slows down the changing of the magazine. Secondly, the magazine was REALLY hard to get out the first few times. Its gradually getting easier, but it really needs to break in a lot more otherwise Id consider it a big drawback.
When I got to the range, my first shots at 20 feet (was an indoor range so range was limited)... anyways first shots were low and left for both myself and my friend. After repeated adjustments I had to move the top picatinny rail from the carry handle to allow the rear sight full elevation. So with the rear sight at its maximum, and almost full to the right the gun was now shooting straight left to right, but still a hair low. I would expect the gun to require some sighting in, but was a little suprised that it required the rear sight to be 100% up or down to get an accurate sight.
At the full length of the range, something like 20 yards or something I was getting nice tight groups in the forehead of my silhouette target. In the end the groups were small and hitting where I wanted but I have no further adjustment upwards, and almost nothing to the right.
I am probably going to put a red dot on this thing anyways, so its probably not an issue to worry about too much.
As far as shooting goes, not a single jam, misfire, and fail to eject etc. I was worried about this as some people online complained about jamming issues in some of the reviews I read.
All in all, for under $300 for the gun, ear protectors, cleaning kit, bore light and some ammo I wont complain. Not the highest quality gun Ive seen, but it did shoot reliably and after some tinkering with the sights accurately.
I would recommend this gun to anyone looking for a cheapish rifle to practice with.
